CENTER FOR INNOVATIVE AND SUSTAINABLE HORTICULTURAL TECHNOLOGIES CIZTO

is a research and development center operating within the structure of the Institute of Horticulture - National Research Institute, bringing together interdisciplinary scientific teams working to solve the most important and key economic problems of environmental nature for horticultural production. The task of CIZTO is to acquire and implement research and implementation projects in the field of innovative and sustainable horticultural technologies for the needs of the horticultural sector.

The Centre will cooperate with the scientific community, economic partners, business environment units and agricultural advisory services based on the human resources potential, research facilities and experience of all IO-PIB research teams.

The CIZTO laboratory complex offers research services for the horticultural sector using the latest analytical methods, including in particular:

  • molecular analyses,
  • analysis and procedures vitro,
  • microscopic and cytological analyses,
  • spectral analysis,
  • microbiological and rhizosphere analyses,
  • physicochemical analyses of soils and substrates,
  • plant ecophysiology analyses.

Key areas of CIZTO scientific and implementation activity in the area of PLANT – SOIL – WATER

  • Developing and improving innovative horticultural production technologies that reduce water consumption, pesticides and carbon footprint, including innovative closed-loop production technologies.
  • Assessment of the response of horticultural plants to abiotic stresses such as drought, high temperatures or soil salinity.
  • Use of techniques vitro in the production of high-quality horticultural plants, with increased resistance to drought stress, diseases and pests, as well as improved sensory, processing and health-promoting properties that meet the current trends in end-user demand.
  • Development of innovative methods for obtaining and selecting materials for breeding horticultural plants using molecular methods by identifying markers of plant resistance to biotic and abiotic stress.
  • Development and improvement of biological methods for preventing and limiting the degradation of the soil environment with a guarantee of high-quality crops, based on the use of beneficial microorganisms and microbiologically enriched fertilizer products.

The Centre for Innovative and Sustainable Horticultural Technologies was established thanks to funding from the Regional Operational Programme of the Łódź Voivodeship 2014-2020 under Measure I.1 “Development of research and innovation infrastructure.”
