SCOPE OF RESEARCH CONDUCTED

The Bee Products Quality Testing Laboratory is a structural unit of the Institute of Horticulture, Department of Beekeeping in Puławy. The laboratory conducts both scientific and service activities, performs tests of the quality of honey and other bee products. Since 2006, the Laboratory has been accredited by the Polish Center for Accreditation (PCA) for tests of physicochemical parameters and pollen analysis of honey (PCA accreditation number AB 715).

  • Characterization of the composition, physicochemical and biological properties of honey and other bee products (wax, propolis, pollen and royal jelly).
  • Monitoring veterinary drug residues in honey and beeswax.
  • Determining optimal conditions for the preservation and storage of bee products.
  • Development and improvement of methods for testing the quality of bee products.
  • Studies on the physicochemical properties of syrups used for winter feeding of bees.

LABORATORY OFFER

  • Assessment of the commercial quality of honey.
  • Identification of honey varieties.
  • Evaluation of wax and comb quality.
  • Development of new methods for testing the quality of bee products.
  • Preparation of opinions on the quality of honey and other bee products.
  • Conducting lectures and training for beekeepers and representatives of laboratories dealing with the quality control of bee products.

The research methods used by the laboratory in the assessment of the commercial quality of honey are accredited by the Polish Centre for Accreditation (Accreditation No. PCA AB 715) and are consistent with the Regulation of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of 14 January 2009 on the methods of analysis related to the assessment of honey (Journal of Laws No. 17, item 94) currently in force in the country.
