SCOPE OF RESEARCH CONDUCTED
Basic research
- Genetic breeding and methodological breeding research to increase the effectiveness of creative breeding of selected vegetable plant species.
- The use of molecular markers in genetic breeding work to identify and confirm the genetic identity of varieties and to assess the degree of genetic relatedness of the tested plant genotypes.
- Identification of molecular markers linked to genes that determine important utility features of horticultural plants, including resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses
- Search for new and effective methods for producing heterosis varieties of vegetable plants based on traits related to mechanisms protecting against self-pollination of parental components (male sterility, self-incompatibility, parthenocarpy, dioeciousness).
Application-oriented research
- Obtaining new genetic variation of vegetable plants as a source of resistance to biotic and abiotic stress factors and with greater nutritional and health-promoting value using conventional and unconventional methods.
- Research on increasing the degree of homozygosity of breeding lines in terms of important utility traits, determining the economic value of new experimental F hybrids1.
- Creative breeding of selected species of vegetable plants (breeding and implementation of new varieties of vegetable plants for commercial cultivation).
