SCOPE OF RESEARCH CONDUCTED

  • Assessment of the utility value of fruit plant varieties in the climatic and soil conditions of Poland, examination of their economic value (EV) and distinctiveness, uniformity and durability (DW).
  • Study of the influence of new rootstocks of Polish and foreign selection on the growth and fruiting of apple and pear varieties.
  • Growth and fruiting biology of cherry and plum trees grafted on different rootstocks.
  • Assessment of self-(in)fertility of sour cherry and sour cherry varieties based on the identification of S-haplotypes using DNA analysis techniques and the selection of pollinators for new varieties of fruit plants.
  • Research on the suitability of species and varieties of fruit plants for organic cultivation.
  • Theoretical and practical aspects of ecological, integrated and conventional seed and nursery production of horticultural and energy plants.
  • Health assessment and identification of seed pathogens and seed improvement.
  • Development of physiological, metabolic and metabolomic markers of germination, dormancy, viability and senescence of seeds of selected horticultural plant species
  • Introduction of new species of horticultural plants of great importance to human health.
  • Production and maintenance of elite nursery material of fruit plants free from viruses, phytoplasmas and viroids.
  • Collection, maintenance and evaluation of plant material constituting a source of genes for breeders and ensuring the preservation of the biodiversity of horticultural plants.
  • Preservation of old varieties and local genotypes of horticultural plants threatened with extinction.
  • Popularization of biodiversity of varieties/species of garden plants gathered in collections and raising public awareness of the need to preserve it.
  • Maintaining an active collection of generatively propagated garden plants.
  • Creation of a reference collection of plant species accompanying horticultural crops and securing their genetic resources at the Regional Centre for Horticultural Biodiversity
  • Building a documentation system integrating data on genotypes collected at the Institute of Horticulture, their passport data, characteristics, evaluation and molecular data, and information on the storage and distribution of genetic materials.
  • Cryopreservation of garlic (Allium sativum L.) by vitrification method.
