Contract No.: DDD.6509.00077.2017.09
Description:
The aim of the project is to demonstrate the effectiveness, efficiency, productivity of plants and high quality of cut roses in summer greenhouse cultivation, in conditions of high sunlight using innovative technology - a high-pressure misting system. This is an innovative system that allows for better control of the microclimate in the greenhouse, i.e. optimal temperature and relative air humidity, thanks to which it will be possible to maintain the most favorable conditions for growing roses in the greenhouse facility. The scope of work is quite wide, it includes both the installation of a misting system, the operation of which will be controlled by a climate computer, and conducting a number of tests in the greenhouse facility and on plants, including greenhouse climate control, measurements of plant physiological characteristics and quality characteristics of rose flowers. Intense sunlight combined with low relative humidity quickly causes stress in the plant, which in such conditions is unable to cope with excessive water loss caused by evaporation. At higher relative humidity, plants grow better, because evaporation is lower and the plant can absorb CO2 better. At a higher level of humidity in the greenhouse, the plant is therefore able to process more radiation that has penetrated the greenhouse, and in such a situation the plant will evaporate less water. Such an innovative technological solution in rose cultivation will allow for obtaining a high and good quality crop of flowers during the period when temperatures are high. This will translate into achieving a relatively higher profit from the sale of flowers during the period when the conditions in the greenhouse do not allow for obtaining a high and good quality crop of rose flowers. The final result of the project will also consist of such values as an increase in demand for the manufactured product - better quality flowers during the period unfavorable for flower production (an advantage over the current technology). This will also result in greater interest from consumers in the domestic product, which will be more attractive (larger flower buds, better coloring of leaves and flowers, higher durability after cutting) than other flowers available on the market. The introduction of such technology to rose cultivation will arouse the interest of other flower producers, especially if the expected effects after the implementation of the operation will allow for achieving better profits during the period when it is usually not possible to produce more flowers of good quality compared to standard crops. The project, apart from deepening research on innovative cultivation methods and their dissemination, will be the beginning of a broader implementation of these innovations and the exchange of information between the scientific community and practice.
