Project title in Polish: Using the multifunctional potential of soil biodiversity in horticulture – EXCALIBUR
Project title in English: Exploiting the multifunctional potential of belowground biodiversity in horticultural farming – EXCALIBUR
Financing institution: European Commission
Program name: HORIZON 2020
Project coordinator: CONSIGLIO PER LA RICERCA IN AGRICOLTURA E L'ANALISI DELL'ECONOMIA AGRARIA, Italy
Project coordinator from IO: Dr. Hab. E. Malusǎ, Prof. IO
Implementation period: 01.06.2019-31.05.2024
Contract No.: 817946
Description:
The project aims to deepen the knowledge on the dynamics of soil biodiversity and its synergistic effects with prebiotic and probiotic products in horticulture using a multi-actor approach. In this context, new multifunctional soil microbial inoculants (bio-inocula) and bioeffectors will be tested on three model crops of economic importance (apple, strawberry and tomato) under different experimental conditions across Europe. Their impact on native biodiversity will be monitored. In order to go beyond the plethora of studies on the links between soil biodiversity and plant health, growth and performance, the project will develop a comprehensive soil management strategy improving the efficiency of biocontrol and biofertilization practices in agriculture.
