A three-day seminar, organized as part of a collaboration between the National Center for Agricultural Education in Brwinów and the Institute, was held at the Institute of Horticulture – National Research Institute on November 26–28, 2025. The event was aimed at teachers of horticulture and landscape architecture and provided an opportunity to expand their knowledge of the latest trends, threats, and methods of horticultural plant protection.
On the first day, participants learned about the Institute's research activities and the most important issues related to plant diseases. They discussed stone fruit tree diseases, the most dangerous soil-borne and foliar pathogens in vegetable crops, and viral and phytoplasma diseases in berry crops. The day concluded with a presentation on biological disease control methods.
The second day focused on ornamental plant diseases and current challenges in vegetable protection in the context of limiting active substances. The latest threats to berry crops were also presented. The afternoon focused on monitoring and controlling fruit tree pests and the impact of climate change on the selection and use of trees and shrubs in horticulture.
The third day was devoted to pests and modern methods of controlling their populations. Participants familiarized themselves with the equipment and activities of the Food Safety Research Department. Next, the threats associated with the emergence of alien and invasive species of insects and mites were discussed. Non-chemical methods of pest control were also presented, as was the promotion of biodiversity as a biological method of protecting horticultural crops from pests. The event provided a valuable forum for the exchange of experiences between teaching staff and the scientific community, strengthening the cooperation between both institutions in promoting modern education and sustainable horticulture.
