Skierniewice, December 3, 2025

On December 3, 2025, the Institute of Horticulture - National Research Institute hosted a hybrid workshop entitled "Opportunities and threats related to the transformation of dessert orchards into juice orchards", organized as part of the target task 9.1 "Development of industrial apple production technology, taking into account the transformation of dessert fruit orchards and the juice orchard model", financed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Approximately 130 people attended the event, both in person in Skierniewice and online. The audience included representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Provincial Inspectorates of Plant Protection and Seed Inspection, Agricultural Advisory Centers, the Agency for Restructuring and Modernization of Agriculture, the Central Research Center for Cultivar Testing, Chemical-Agricultural Stations, the Provincial Inspectorates of Agricultural and Food Quality, as well as representatives of industry companies and individual participants interested in the topic.

The workshop program covered key issues related to orchard transformation: from pest and disease threats, through raw material quality assessment during harvest and storage, to the quality of juices obtained from fruit grown in juice orchards. The economic impact of converting orchards to dessert orchards and issues arising from fruit-growing practices were also discussed.

The speakers included researchers from the Institute of Horticulture – National Research Institute and invited experienced fruit growers, who presented their perspectives on the orchard transformation process and shared their observations from their daily work. The meeting concluded with an engaging discussion, during which participants exchanged practical observations and identified the most important challenges and prospects for the development of sap orchards.
