Workshop "Production of Vegetable Oils"

December 1-2, 2025, Bratoszewice

On December 1-2, 2025, a practical workshop on vegetable oil pressing in the Agricultural Retail (RHD) environment was held at the Łódź Agricultural Advisory Center in Bratoszewice, at the "Stodoła" Agricultural and Food Processing Demonstration Center. The workshop was held in two sessions and included both theoretical and practical sessions.

The workshop was led by Sebastian Siarkowski, a member of the Institute of Horticulture – National Research Institute, and Paweł Guzik from the Center for Horticultural Products Processing. The experts presented key issues related to oil extraction technology, including: raw material quality and preparation, process parameter selection, and the stability and safety of the finished product. The importance of essential fatty acid (EFA) content in cold-pressed oils, the impact of oxidative factors on product shelf life, and the potential for fully utilizing oilcakes in accordance with the principles of a circular economy were also discussed.

In the practical part, participants worked together to press rapeseed oil, analyzing the impact of temperature, time, and bottling conditions on its quality. Interest in the topic was very high, with numerous questions raised regarding, among other things, variety selection, yield optimization, hygiene requirements, and the rules for introducing products to the market under the RHD.

Sample fruit and vegetable products from the CPPO and sample batches of oil previously pressed at the Center were also prepared for the training. The exhibition served an educational and demonstrative purpose, showcasing the diversity of raw materials used in the pressing process and the possibilities of their processing at the farm level. It provided a valuable supplement to the classes, supporting the achievement of the training objectives. The event was organized as part of Target 10.1, financed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
